Lesson 2 (100 minutes) - Preparing the Vision for Production
The Teachers Example
We will begin this lesson by playing the teacher resource. The teacher has created a music video featuring elements of filmed footage and collage animation. A class wide discussion will follow where students will question the teachers creative choices. The purpose of this exercise is to both encourage students' exploration as an audience, and invigorate the students to make their own music video inspired by the teacher's example.
Groups Formation & Brainstorming
Next, the students will form their groups. Following this they will have the opportunity to choose their song from a set list or alternately, students can present a song of their choice to the teacher who will approve the selection based on appropriateness.
Students will begin brainstorming in their groups. What does one see when listening to their song? How does it make you feel? How does it make you move? So far we have engaged plenty in this type of discussion, utilising repetition as a means of enabling scaffold learning among students.
Collage Animation: How TO?
The teacher will present the step-by-step visual process resources of collage animation. Students will learn the skills of how to scan images of a physical medium, into a digital realm, and how they can be manipulated in video editing software.
Group Role Delegation
In this lesson we are underway with the creation of music videos. Students will have been assigned roles within their groups. It will be encouraged that students move between roles if they so desire. Roles defined:
Collage Crew
Filming & Acting Crew
Editing Crew
